“Inland Empire is about a woman in trouble and it’s a mystery, and that’s about all I want to say about it”
David Lynch for me is more than a talented director; he is an artist. The Lost Highway haunted my adolescence and introduced me to a different form of narrative and storytelling. His films are thought provoking, based on detail and surely leave anyone watching thinking the plot for the following days. Even when someone thinks that his films are too weird can’t deny that they are thought provoking.
His films are surreal, metaphorical and refer to the inner soul or mind. They are like traveling inside a labyrinth. The “Blue Velvet”, “Mulholland Drive”, “The Elephant Man” “Lost Highway” and “Twin Peaks” are just a few of his masterpieces. A critique wrote “Lynch's films are tragedies about the overwhelming tendency for people to condemn themselves to a world of darkness and confusion, by succumbing to violence and the desire to control others. " He is an artist that is not afraid to explore the humans psyche darkest aspects and often comes to surprising conclusions. Apart from his film making; he is a painter, a sculptor and a photographer.
After Mulholland Drive he released his new film Inland Empire. It was released last year but due to circumstances I missed the cinema screening. I watched it a few days ago and I still can’t get it out of my head. His new film definitely is the most difficult and weirdest of all. Many people that like his films thought that this time he took it too far. Inland Empire is too weird. It leaves you after viewing wandering how the stories connect and makes you want to watch it for another four times in order to understand it.
For me this film is simply another masterpiece. Its true that it leaves you hanging but it is filled with some killer lines, a great atmosphere and nightmare like images. I think that people are trying too hard to understand his films as his films are like a painting. It can provoke mixed feelings and people can come up to different assumptions about what it portrays. However, like a painting, its profound, thought provoking, original and has an identity. I do urge you to watch it with an open mind.

The Elephant Man, even though it's one of Lynch's few linear films is one the films I hold dearest to my heart.
And The Lost Highway is just something you can watch 500 times and still not get bored of it.
And, Eraserhead is easily one of the most underrated films in history.
There's been so many people telling me that Lynch's films are incomprehensible and that the guy's a fraud that makes money off of people that pretend to appreciate art. Ironically enough, they're the same people that consider Picasso to be the greatest painter ever, even though none of them can tell what each of his painting is about.
I won't pretend I do. On the contrary, I say, you don't have to understand the artist in order to appreciate his/her work. If provoking feeling was that simple there would be no art and all we would be left with would be philosophy. We'd have no films or paintings or music. We'd only have walls of straight forward text. But it doesn't work that way.
Having said that, Lynch is right about one thing. The artist's primary purpose must not be the education of others, but, rather, to express himself/herself. If the public views his/her work and arrives at a singular conclussion then what does this say about the artist? Not much. Art should convey feeling first and thought after and it's sad that people don't embrace the underlying opportunity in Lynch's films to explore and celebrate the diversity of human thought.
Τώρα τελευταία, όλο για τον Λυντς ακούω. Είδα κατά τύχη ένα ντοκυμαντέρ στην τηλεόραση, διάβασα το ποστ σου, κάποιος σχλίασε χτες ένα ποστ μου και είπε ότι του θύμισε το Lost Highway... Εντύπωση μου κάνει.
Πάντως κι εγώ τον εκτιμώ.

Θέλω να το δω και με τσιγκλάς περισσότερο. Πάντως με φοβίζει ο lynch, ώρες ώρες μου θυμίζει κάποιους εφιάλτες μου (ή μου τους δημιουργεί; δεν ξερω)..
έχω δει το Mulholland drive και δεν θα έλεγα ότι με ενθουσίασε, αλλά καταλαβαίνω ότι μιλάμε για έναν δημιουργό που είναι πρώτα ζωγράφος, ποιητής κτλ παρά σκηνοθέτης.
όπως και να χει, μου αρέσει να υπάρχουν σκηνοθέτες με διαφορετική προοπτική στα πράγματα

The elephant man is really a brilliant film, its like reading a novel.I watched quite recently though.As for eraserhead I am still looking.I am curious...For me Lynch makes sense.Its just that we don't have all to agree and I love that.

Μμμ,. πρέπει να είχα δει το Mulholland Drive και το Lost Highway 3 χρονιά πριν αλλά δεν είχα καταλάβει και πολλά τότε. Χμμ,. όσο ποιό λίγα καταλαβαίνω όμως τόσο πιο πολύ μου αρέσει. Θα τα έβλεπα 2-3 φορές ακόμα να μπω στον κόσμο τους και τις τελευταίες του ταινίες επίσης. Γιατί άραγε μου αρέσουν οι παράξενες ταινίες;
If you guys remember, when Mulholland Drive went DVD, the DVD clubs used to hand out those small leaflets with hints on the plot. I thought that there's never been a most stupid marketing decision in the history of cinema. It was like 'Lynch for dummies' or something. It was hilarious and it was very funny watching people missing the entire film trying to follow the leads from the leaflets.
Aronofsky's work is also amazing. Both Pi and Requiem For A Dream are beautiful works and I can really say that Requiem is my favorite film of all times and the only one that actually comes close to causing me physical pain every single time I watch it.

ναι το θυμάμαι όταν μοίραζαν τα leaflet.Απίστευτο!Καλά που έγραψες σωστά τον aronofsky. Και εμένα είναι το requiem η αγαπημένη μου όλων των εποχών!
Μόλις το είδα. Κλασικός Lynch, ονειρική δομή με μπερδεμένο χρόνο. "Μην φοβάσαι: θάνατος είναι", η καλύτερη ατάκα για μένα (κάτι θα γράψω οπωσδήποτε πάνω σ' αυτό). Δεν θυμάμαι ποτέ τίποτα μετά απο λίγες ημέρες (τα έχω δει όλα νομιζω), αλλά πάντα με τριπάρουν και ιντριγκάρουν όχι τόσο τη σκέψη μου, όσο κάτι άλλο... πιο βαθιά μέσα μου. Φιλιά.
